Popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has once again stirred reactions online after responding to a recent sermon by Salvation Ministries founder, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

In a video shared on his social media platforms yesterday, VeryDarkMan criticised comments made by the cleric regarding claims that Nigeria could be turned into an Islamic state.

According to VDM, religious leaders must be careful with the kind of messages they communicate to their congregations, especially in a country as diverse and sensitive as Nigeria.

“This Kind of Preaching Is Dangerous” – VDM

Reacting to the sermon, VeryDarkMan argued that sermons that are not properly explained could create fear and deepen religious tensions among Nigerians.

He stated that many worshippers might leave church with the impression that all Muslims are working together with a common agenda to Islamise Nigeria.

According to him, such generalisations are harmful and do not reflect the reality of the country’s security challenges.

“This kind of preaching is very dangerous, especially when it is not broken down properly. People may leave church believing that all Muslims are involved in a coordinated plan, and that’s not true,” VDM said. (GistReel)

The outspoken activist further stressed that terrorism and insecurity have affected both Christians and Muslims across the country.

He noted that countless Muslim communities in Northern Nigeria have also suffered devastating attacks from terrorists, resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of properties.

VDM urged Nigerians not to view insecurity strictly through a religious lens, warning that doing so could worsen existing divisions.
