Tears as Another Nollywood Director Dies in Tragic Circumstances

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of a Nollywood director and producer, who reportedly lost his life after an electrocution during a church rehearsal.

Jomo TV gathered this information firsthand after visiting the late filmmaker’s family residence to pay condolences and verify reports surrounding the unfortunate incident. MNP members, close associates, and other Nollywood practitioners who were present shared details of what transpired.

According to the report, the incident occurred on Sunday when the filmmaker attended church as usual. Beyond his contributions to Nollywood, he was also the band leader of his church, whose name has not been disclosed at the time of filing this report.

Close friends explained that after the church service, members of the church band stayed behind for a rehearsal session.

During the rehearsal, one of the band members reportedly suffered an electric shock. The late filmmaker immediately rushed to the person’s aid, pulled the individual away from the source of the electricity, and helped save the victim.

After ensuring the situation had been brought under control, he reportedly fixed the electrical issue and returned to continue playing the guitar. Moments later, he was allegedly electrocuted.

He was immediately rushed to a hospital in the Ojo area of Lagos State. However, according to the report Jomo Tv gathered, the hospital lacked the necessary equipment to handle the emergency and referred him to the General Hospital. Sadly, he was said to have passed away before arriving at the General Hospital.

The deceased Mr Uche Okonkwo, popularly known as Afrovic TV, a respected Nollywood director and producer. He also served as the current Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman of the Movement for Nollywood Practitioners (MNP), an association headquartered in Ojo, Lagos State.

His sudden passing has left family members, colleagues, and friends devastated, with many describing him as a humble, dedicated, and passionate filmmaker who devoted his life to both the Nigerian movie industry and the service of God.

Several Nollywood practitioners were present at his residence when Jomo TV visited to pay tribute, as the industry continues to mourn the loss of one of its respected members.
