Abuja, Nigeria — (JomoTV News) | China has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Nigeria’s sovereignty and internal stability, pledging stronger collaboration in security and economic development as both nations deepen bilateral relations.
The renewed assurance followed a strategic meeting between China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, in Abuja.
In a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter), Ambassador Dunhai highlighted that diplomatic and economic ties between China and Nigeria have grown steadily since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official visit to Beijing and participation in the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit last year.
According to the envoy, ongoing projects and investments across key sectors have produced “fruitful outcomes,” enhancing Nigeria’s infrastructure, economic growth, and citizens’ livelihoods.
🇨🇳 China Rejects External Pressure and Sanctions
Ambassador Dunhai reaffirmed Beijing’s long-standing position on non-interference, declaring that China firmly supports Nigeria’s right to chart its own development path based on local realities.
He also criticized what he called “the arbitrary threat of sanctions and use of force” by certain countries, stressing that such approaches violate international norms and undermine mutual respect among sovereign nations.
“China will continue to stand with Nigeria in safeguarding peace, unity, and territorial integrity,” Dunhai said.
🔒 Beijing Pledges Support Against Terrorism
The envoy further pledged that China would continue to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism, strengthening internal security, and maintaining national stability.
This assurance reflects Beijing’s expanding security cooperation with African nations, particularly in intelligence sharing, counter-insurgency training, and defense technology exchange.

The high-level engagement comes at a tense moment in global diplomacy following reports that the United States recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” — a move linked to alleged religious persecution and human rights concerns.
Beijing’s clear opposition to such external pressure underscores its belief in non-interference and its broader commitment to respecting the sovereignty of African nations.
China and Nigeria maintain decades-long bilateral relations, with trade volumes exceeding $20 billion annually and multiple cooperation agreements in energy, transportation, and technology.
