Beijing, China — (JomoTV News) | Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has secured a major economic partnership with the People’s Republic of China, following a high-profile bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), marks a significant milestone in Nigeria–China relations, as both nations signed a New Economic Cooperation and Development Agreement aimed at boosting trade, infrastructure, and industrial growth.

President Tinubu, accompanied by top Nigerian officials including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, emphasized that Nigeria remains open for business and ready to partner with China on technology transfer, power, transportation, and manufacturing.
“Our goal is clear — to build a stronger Nigeria through innovation, industrialization, and sustainable partnerships. China has proven to be a reliable partner in Africa’s development journey,” Tinubu said during the signing ceremony.
President Xi Jinping, in his remarks, described Nigeria as “a strategic friend and gateway to Africa’s economic future,” reaffirming China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s growth through infrastructure funding, renewable energy investments, and digital technology development.
💼 Details of the New Cooperation Deal
- Expansion of industrial parks and special economic zones in Lagos, Ogun, and Kano.
- Joint development of solar energy and green power infrastructure.
- Low-interest loan facilities for Nigerian entrepreneurs and manufacturers.

Officials confirmed that a follow-up delegation from China will visit Nigeria in December to finalize the implementation framework and commence pilot projects under the new pact.

This development further cements Nigeria’s position as one of China’s key partners in Africa. Experts say the deal aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on economic diversification, job creation, and industrial expansion.
“Nigeria–China cooperation has reached a new height, one that reflects mutual respect and a shared vision for inclusive development,” said Ambassador Yu Dunhai, China’s top diplomat in Abuja.
